Srilanka, June 12 -- The Sri Lanka Navy, in collaboration with the Air Force, has apprehended 76 individuals engaged in illegal fishing activities using prohibited gear, including 17 unauthorized nets, electric lights, and equipment for night diving-particularly for sea cucumber harvesting.These arrests were made during a series of coordinated operations conducted by the Northern and Eastern Naval Commands across several coastal and marine zones. The areas covered include Kadikadu and Pudumathalan in Jaffna, Kalladichennai, Aukkupadu, Kodbey, Poduwakattu, Kuchchaveli, Salpe Aru in Trincomalee, and Palaminmadu in Batticaloa.

In addition to the arrests, 20 dinghies used in these unlawful fishing practices were seized.
