Sri Lanka, Oct. 1 -- In separate operations conducted by the Navy with the assistance of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Department, 36 individuals involved in various illegal fishing activities were arrested along with 13 dinghies and two canoes in multiple locations across the country from September 16 to 25.
In the coastal areas of Boulder Point, Norway Island, Alampil, Diamond Point, Vavunativu, Foul Point, Pigeon Island and Palaminmadu in Trincomalee and South Bar in Mannar, the Eastern and North Central Naval Commands nabbed these 16 individuals for their involvement in fishing with unauthorised nets, explosives and engagement in illegal diving and fishing practices without valid licence.
