Sri Lanka, Jan. 12 -- Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Kanchana Banagoda, conducted an on-site review of the naval boat service along the Ambanganga River on 10 January 2026, which has been providing essential public transport since 24 December 2025.
The service was launched following the collapse of the Ambanganga bridge due to adverse weather, ensuring residents maintain uninterrupted access across the river. It serves as a vital transit link for the local community, including school children, between Raithalawa and Aluthwela in the Matale District.
During the review, the Navy Commander assessed ongoing operations and issued directives to further enhance the efficiency and safety of the service.
