Srilanka, June 30 -- The Ministry of Health has launched National Mosquito Control Week from today (June 30) to July 5, in response to the alarming rise in dengue cases across the country.
According to the Ministry, the highest number of dengue patients so far this year were reported in April (5,175 cases) and May (6,025 cases). Currently, approximately 1,500 new cases are being reported each week, a surge attributed to recent continuous rainfall.
In an earlier effort to curb the outbreak, a special dengue prevention campaign was conducted from May 19 to 24, covering 95 high-risk areas across 16 health zones. During that period, 128,824 premises were inspected.
