Srilanka, May 10 -- The National Vesak Week, commemorating the 2569th Sambuddha Jayanthi of the Sri Buddha year, begins today (May 10) and will continue until May 16.

This year's State Vesak Festival is being held under the theme "Let's Associate with Noble Friends of Good Qualities", with celebrations centered in the Nuwara Eliya District. The festival officially commences today.

The event is jointly organized by the All Ceylon Shasanarakshaka Board, the Presidential Secretariat, the Ministry of Buddha Sasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, the Department of Buddhist Affairs, the Central Provincial Council, and the Nuwara Eliya District Secretariat.
