Srilanka, Nov. 5 -- The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the implementation of the Road Protection Action Plan 2025-2026, aimed at creating a safe and equitable road environment for all road users while reducing the high number of fatalities and damages caused by road accidents, Cabinet Spokesman and Health and Mass Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa announced.Speaking at the weekly Cabinet press briefing held yesterday (4), the minister highlighted that Sri Lanka had recorded a staggering 12,322 deaths from 118,697 road accidents between 2020 and 2024, including 400 fatalities linked to unprotected railway crossings.
