Sri Lanka, May 19 -- National Dengue Control Week begins today (19). The week from today (19) to May 24 has been declared a mosquito control week.

A total of 3,245 dengue cases were reported in the past 17 days, National Dengue Control Programme Director Dr. Sudath Samaraweera said yesterday (18).

He also stated that there is a risk of a further increase in the number of dengue cases in the coming period with the active southwest monsoon.

Dr. Samaraweera said that 20,791 dengue cases have been reported so far and 10 deaths have occurred.

He said that control programmes will be implemented this week, targeting 95 high-risk MOH divisions in 15 high-risk districts across the country.
