Sri Lanka, March 15 -- The Agriculture Ministry yesterday emphasised the proposed National Animal Census (NAC), scheduled to be conducted today (15) will help the Government to ascertain the wild animals that mostly destroy agricultural lands and crop.
The animal census will be carried out countrywide, especially in agricultural lands during a short period of five minutes today.
Agriculture Deputy Minister Nimal Karunaratna said people should extend their fullest cooperation toward this initiative by counting monkeys, apes, peacocks and giant squirrels that invade their lands during this period.
He said people will have to write down the number of the mentioned wild animal species in the forms given to them by Grama Niladaris.
