Sri Lanka, Sept. 1 -- Nadeesha Ramanayaka 400m National champion athlete has been selected to represent Sri Lanka at the upcoming World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan from September 13 to 21.

This is a good opportunity for the 30-year-old Army athlete who won 2023 Asian Athletic Championship 400m gold medal.

With no Sri Lankan female athlete meeting the qualification standards for the event, Sri Lanka Athletics nominated next best in Sri Lanka, Javelin Thrower Dilhani Lekamge and 400m specialist Ramanayaka for universality places, a provision that allows countries to send athletes even without direct qualification.

The slot was ultimately awarded to Nadeesha Ramanayaka, who will be making her debut at the World Championships. ...
