Sri Lank, Feb. 9 -- The Supreme Court yesterday fixed September 3 for support of a Fundamental Rights petition filed by Mr. Sri Lanka 2016 pageant winner Shanith Fernando against officers of the Katana Police Station, over an unjust arrest and torture claims.

The Petitioner states that the Katana Police officers arrested him and kept him in Police custody overnight, causing mental and physical pain, when he visited the Police station to record statements relating to two complaints that had been lodged by a third party against him in September 2020.

Accordingly, Fernando requests Court to rule that his Fundamental Rights had been violated through this incident and therefore be compensated by the responding parties.
