Srilanka, March 27 -- Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa while categorically rejecting the UK government's allegation of widespread human rights violations during the military operations yesterday stressed that his government led military operations only against LTTE terrorists and not against the Tamil people.

The former President in a statement emphasised that he is responsible for taking the decision to militarily defeat the LTTE and the Armed Forces implemented his decision on the ground.

The statement came after the UK Government announced sanctions including travel bans and asset freezes against former military commanders over unproven allegations of human rights violations during the war with the LTTE.
