Sri Lanka, May 19 -- Badulla District Parliamentarian Chamara Sampath Dassanayake was granted bail today (May 19) by Badulla Magistrate Nujith de Silva in connection with a case filed under the Public Property Act.

The court approved bail with two sureties of Rs. 1 million each, following the consideration of the bail application. The MP was produced before the Badulla Magistrate's Court around 9:00 a.m.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) filed the case against Dassanayake over allegations that he misused Rs. 1 million from a state bank in 2016. The funds, intended for the distribution of school bags to pre-school children, were allegedly misappropriated during his tenure as Chief Minister of the Uva Province.
