Srilanka, April 8 -- The Colombo Magistrate's Court has granted bail to remanded MP Chamara Sampath Dassanayake in a corruption case. The case was heard today before Colombo Chief Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali.
After considering arguments from both the Bribery Commission and the defense lawyers, the Magistrate ordered Dassanayake's release on a cash bail of Rs. 50,000 and five sureties of Rs. 2 million each.
However, the court imposed a travel ban, prohibiting the MP from leaving the country.
Dassanayake is accused of causing a loss of over Rs. 173,000 to the Uva Provincial Council by prematurely withdrawing six fixed deposit accounts while serving as the Chief Minister of the council in 2016.
