Srilanka, March 6 -- The National Transport Commission (NTC) Chairman Dileepa Witharana announced several new initiatives to combat harassment faced by women in public spaces. These measures, timed to coincide with International Women's Day, include a mobile app specifically designed for reporting incidents of harassment.

Addressing a media conference yesterday (5) at the Department of Government Information, Witharana emphasised the NTC's long-term goal of making public transport a safe space for women. "Our objective is not just to reduce harassment, but to eradicate it completely. We want this to become a significant social discussion. Several initiatives are already in motion," he stated.
