Sri Lanka, Feb. 13 -- The Ministry of Justice and National Integration has called on the public to provide feedback and proposals for reforms to the Muslim Marriage and Divorce Act (MMDA) of 1951, as amended.

The initiative follows a directive from the Hon. Minister of Justice, who tasked the Advisory Committee on Muslim Law Reforms with reviewing the MMDA in consultation with the public. The Committee is considering reforms in several key areas, including introducing mandatory registration of marriages, ensuring that brides provide consent before marriage, recognizing pre-nuptial agreements, and facilitating the fair recovery of dowry and other transactions of money or property at the time of divorce.
