Srilanka, March 13 -- Health and Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa yesterday urged the medical officers to call off their countrywide strike, stating that it is unfair to continue the protest while the Government is actively working to ensure their security.
The strike follows the rape of a female doctor at the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital, a case that has drawn significant public attention due to the victim's status as a medical professional.
The incident has deeply shocked the entire healthcare sector, including female consultant doctors.
Minister Jayatissa emphasised that law enforcement acted swiftly, arresting the suspect within 36 hours.
Five special Police teams were deployed to investigate the crime.
