Sri Lanka, Oct. 30 -- The National Lotteries Board (NLB) has revealed that several lottery sales representatives, appointed based on political connections during previous governments, have defrauded the board of substantial sums.

Chairman M.D.C.A. Perera made the disclosure at a special press conference held today (29), providing details of specific cases.

One sales representative Lakeesha Tharangika Rajapaksa from Kuliyapitiya, Kurunegala, allegedly failed to pay Rs. 98 lakh to the board for lottery ticket purchases. She was reportedly appointed on the direct notice of former Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam and is his sister-in-law.
