Sri Lanka, Jan. 27 -- The Marine Environment Protection Authority (MEPA), responsible for protecting Sri Lanka's marine environment and managing pollution, has established a modern 24-hour operations room to streamline its response to marine incidents.
The operations room enables immediate action in the event of ship accidents, providing timely information to relevant departments and facilitating coordination among government agencies. It plays a central role in implementing the National Oil or Chemical Spill Response Plan (NOSCP), ensuring a rapid and organised response to marine pollution.
