Srilanka, March 27 -- Six pairs of meerkats, brought to the Dehiwala National Zoo from the Capital Zoo in the United Arab Emirates on February 10 under the National Animal Exchange Program, were put on public display yesterday (26).
They had been quarantined at the zoo for over a month under the supervision of veterinarians.
The meerkats, aged between 2 and 6 years, are expected to live up to 15 years.
According to Deputy Director Dinushika Manawadu, meerkats are native to the grasslands and forests of Africa.
