Sri Lanka, Jan. 13 -- The Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) has launched a strike today (13) in all hospitals across the Eastern Province.
The strike demands the removal of the Medical Superintendent of Akkaraipattu Base Hospital over alleged financial and administrative misconduct and calls for the appointment of a new director.
The industrial action affects 2 general hospitals, 1 teaching hospital, 17 base hospitals, 52 regional hospitals, and 113 primary medical centers in the province.
Dr. Janith Peduruarachchi, Executive Member of the GMOA and Ampara District Organizer, confirmed that doctors in all hospitals across Ampara, Batticaloa, and Trincomalee districts will participate in the strike.
