Sri Lanka, Dec. 8 -- The National Farmers' Union states that nearly 100,000 acres of vegetable crops have been damaged due to the adverse weather conditions during last week.
The government is taking steps to provide compensation for these damaged crop cultivation. However, the National Farmers' Union pointed out that, according to the government circular, crop damage compensation is provided only for six types of crops, but vegetable and fruit cultivation do not include that category. Therefore, the union is also requesting that the government circular be amended and compensation be provided for vegetable and fruit crops also.
