Sri Lanka, Jan. 12 -- The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) recently implemented regulations on maximum prices for essential goods, such as big onions, white sugar, and dried chillies.

The maximum wholesale price for a kilogram of dried chillies has been set at Rs.900, while the maximum retail price is Rs.1,100. For white sugar, the wholesale price is Rs.280, and the retail price ranges between Rs.280 and Rs.320. The wholesale price of imported big onions is Rs.380 per kilogram, while the retail price should be between Rs.420 and Rs.580. These regulations have been put in place to prevent shop owners from exploiting customers by charging different prices, and the law will take appropriate action against such businessmen.
