Sri Lanka, Oct. 1 -- Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) officials arrested a businessman at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) for attempting to smuggle 75 bottles of foreign liquor valued Rs.1 million out of the duty-free complex.
The suspect, a 38-year-old businessman residing in Puttalam, was not a passenger.
He was apprehended around 2.40 am as he was moving the liquor, packed into five bags, past the airport bank complex and through the "Green Channel" of the arrivals terminal. The man's last flight was reportedly on August 17, 2024, meaning he had no authority to access the duty-free complex.
