Sri Lanka, April 24 -- The Colombo High Court has sentenced Patrick Krishnaraja to death for the 2015 murder of Dharmaraja Karthika, whose body was found in a suitcase at a bus stop on Bastion Road, Colombo.

The crime took place on July 29, 2015, at a lodge on Sea Street, Colombo, where the victim was killed before her body was concealed in a suitcase and abandoned.

Following a lengthy trial, Colombo High Court Judge Aditya Patabendi delivered the verdict, stating that the prosecution had proven the charges beyond reasonable doubt.

Though the accused maintained his innocence during his statement before sentencing, the court found him guilty and imposed the death penalty accordingly.
