Sri Lanka, Oct. 31 -- The Colombo Magistrate's Court today (30) granted bail to Neville Wanniarachchi, the former chief security officer of ex-President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Wanniarachchi had been arrested and remanded by the Commission to Investigate Bribery or Corruption over allegations of illegally acquiring assets and property worth Rs. 28 million.
Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanka S. Bodaragama approved the bail after reviewing submissions from the Bribery Commission and the suspect's lawyers.
The court ordered his release on a cash bail of Rs. 50,000 and three sureties of Rs. 1 million each, while also imposing a travel ban abroad.
The case is scheduled for the next hearing on January 16.
