Sri Lanka, Nov. 20 -- President Gotabaya Rajapaksa is likely to appoint an interim Government today until the next general election which is due next year, political sources disclosed last evening.

Former President and Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa is expected to be appointed new interim Prime Minister.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe is likely to resign allowing the President to appoint a new Prime Minister and an interim Cabinet.

The number of the cabinet ministers in the caretaker government could be limited to 10, political sources said.
