Sri Lanka, Jan. 15 -- The Prisons Department will take legal action against 120 participants including 25 inmates who spearheaded the recent riot at Mahara Prison causing serious property damage.

According to the Prisons sources, of them 116 are remand prisoners while the rest are convicted inmates.

The estimated damage to the properties of the prison during this riot that took place in November last year is Rs.60 million. The culprits will be prosecuted as per the provisions of the Public Property Act.

The infirmary and archives are among the buildings damaged during this tense situation.
