Srilanka, Feb. 17 -- The Danowita Police have seized a lorry transporting a stock of timber worth approximately Rs. 2.5 million without a valid transport permit at a provincial roadblock on the Colombo-Kandy road.

The lorry, en route from Rambukkana to Grandpass, was stopped at the Danowita roadblock, where police discovered that the timber was being transported without proper documentation. Upon inspection, officers found mahogany, teak, and suriya mara timber-species that require a permit-hidden beneath firewood boards.

The driver failed to produce a transport permit or bill of lading, leading to his immediate arrest. He is a resident of Rambukkana and is scheduled to be presented before the Attanagalla Magistrate's Court.
