Srilanka, May 5 -- A candidate contesting from the Sarvajana Balaya Party, for the Laggala Pradeshiya Sabha, at the upcoming Local Government (LG) elections, has been arrested in connection with an alleged sexual assault on a 19-year-old girl, police said.
According to investigations by the Laggala Police, the suspect had visited a house in the Hathota-Amuna area on May 3 and approached the young woman claiming he was contesting in the LG elections, requesting her support. He reportedly promised her employment in the Matale area following the election if she cooperated.
