Sri Lanka, Sept. 10 -- The names of 29 former Members of Parliament (MPs) who placed deposits to purchase houses from the Viyathpura Housing Complex have been revealed.
The concessionary scheme, approved by the Cabinet in July 2024, allowed ex-MPs to purchase units at reduced prices ranging from Rs. 13.34 million to Rs. 18.21 million, compared to the public market value of Rs. 15.5 million to Rs. 22 million. Buyers were required to pay 25% upfront, with the balance spread over 15 years at a 10% annual interest rate. By December 31, 2024, a total of 29 ex-MPs had already made their initial payments.
