Sri Lanka, Jan. 15 -- Doctors at a private hospital in Kandy have removed 13.5 litres of fat from the abdomen of a 61-year-old woman through liposuction, which could go down in history as the largest volume of fat removed from the human body during a single surgery.

The surgery had been done by a group of doctors headed by Dr. Ananda Jayawardena.

Dr. Jayawardena said the surgery took about three hours although a normal liposuction takes only about two hours.

He said that usually the maximum fat removed during a single surgery is about four to five litres.

The doctor said that the 61-year-old woman, a retired teacher who underwent surgery, is a mother of one and is doing well without any complications.
