Leadership tussle: No decision at UNP meeting
Sri Lanka, Jan. 17 -- The meeting of the Parliamentary Group of the United National Party held at Sirikotha yesterday ended without reaching a decision on the party leadership, party sources said.
UNP General Secretary Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said the meeting ended with Party Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe announcing that both Karu Jayasuriya and Opposition Leader
Sajith Premadasa would work together to ensure that the party would not be split.
Asked why meetings over the leadership of United National Party often seem to end without any decision being made, Kariyawasam said that those members who endorsed MP Sajith Premadasa's leadership were disappointed that Premadasa had not been given the party leadership.
