Sri Lanka, June 28 -- The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) said that there is a rapid increase in the number of Sri Lankan citizens becoming victims of crimes committed using social media networks.

Recent investigations conducted by the Department have identified that citizens are increasingly becoming victims of these crimes through social media platforms such as Facebook, WhatsApp, Telegram, and WeChat.

The CID stated that criminals use two main methods to commit such fraud.

The first method is to advertise on the social media platforms mentioned above that "you can earn a lot of money by working from home", and then invite people to invest in a business.
