Srilanka, Feb. 1 -- A Sri Lankan traveller attempting to smuggle a consignment of imported cigarettes worth Rs. 4.5 million into Sri Lanka was apprehended by customs officers at the Katunayake International Airport on the morning of January 31. The suspect had attempted to take the undeclared cigarettes through the "Green Channel," which is designated for passengers with no goods to declare.

The detainee, a 32-year-old resident of Kengalla, Kandy, had been running a tattoo parlour in Dubai for a long time. He arrived at the Katunayake Airport at 5:15 a.m., on January 31 aboard SriLankan Airlines flight UL-226 from Dubai.
