Sri Lanka, Oct. 31 -- Sri Lanka's junior badminton players Keneth Aruggoda, Sithuli Ranasinghe, and Pamudu Randiligama advanced to the boys' and girls' singles pre-quarterfinals at the Asian Youth Games held in Bahrain, before bowing out against higher-ranked opponents from China and Indonesia after competitive matches.
Seventeen-year-old Keneth Aruggoda of Lyceum International School produced a fighting performance in a thrilling three-setter against Indonesia's Maharisheil Gain, which lasted for an hour.
The Indonesian won the opening set 21-19, but Aruggoda fought back strongly to claim the second set 24-22. However, Gain regrouped to take the decider 21-10, progressing to the quarterfinals with a 2-1 victory.
