Sri Lanka, July 21 -- The Lanka Salt Company has officially resumed salt production in Hambantota after a suspension of approximately 18 months due to adverse weather conditions.
Chairman D. Nandana Thilaka announced that the company aims to produce 40,000 metric tons of salt this season. Production recommenced this morning (21) at the Bundala salt mine.
Although the target for last year was 100,000 metric tons, only 40,000 metric tons were harvested due to unfavorable weather.
Chairman Thilaka also stated that salt production will begin tomorrow (22) at the Mahalewa site in Hambantota, further boosting output for the year.
