Sri Lanka, Jan. 4 -- The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) has strongly condemned the recent United States military actions in Venezuela, including the reported move to take President Nicolas Maduro and his wife into US custody.

In a statement issued in response to the incident, the JVP said the United States had violated the sovereignty of Venezuela by forcefully intervening in the affairs of a free and independent nation. The party described the action as an unlawful intrusion and an abduction of a president who was elected by the Venezuelan people.
