Sri Lanka, Oct. 7 -- The Inland Revenue Department (IRD) announced a new initiative to recover unpaid taxes from individuals by visiting their premises, after September 30 to collect taxes from those who have not paid before the deadline (September 30).

Earlier, taxpayers were notified to settle all outstanding tax payments under the self-assessment system by September 30. A significant number of individuals have already paid their dues.

However, Inland Revenue Commissioner General Sepalika Chandrasekera said the department initiated a new programme last Friday (4) to collect the unpaid taxes by directly visiting the remaining defaulters.
