Srilanka, May 20 -- A school bus driver was arrested by Katupotha Police after being found intoxicated while transporting schoolchildren. The arrest took place on the afternoon of May 19 during a routine inspection by the Katupotha Police Traffic Division in Katupotha town.

The 52-year-old suspect, a resident of Radaliyagoda, Katupotha, was driving a bus carrying 16 school children and two mothers at the time of the incident. Authorities immediately took the driver into custody and seized the bus.

He is scheduled to be produced before the Narammala Magistrate's Court today (May 20).

The incident comes amid an islandwide crackdown by Sri Lanka Police on drunk driving and traffic violations, especially those endangering public safety. ...
