Srilanka, Feb. 27 -- The Castlereigh and Maussakelle water catchment areas have been experiencing intermittent rainfall since the early hours of February 27.

However, engineers report that due to the prolonged dry weather over the past few days, the water levels in the Maussakelle Reservoir have dropped 24 feet from the overflow level, while the Castlereagh Reservoir has receded 21 feet.

The severe drought affecting the western slopes of the central hills has also led to a drinking water shortage in the region.
