Sri Lanka, Sept. 1 -- Following 11 consecutive months of deflation, headline inflation, as measured by the year-on-year (Y-o-Y) change in the Colombo Consumer Price Index (CCPI, 2021=100) returned to the positive territory in August 2025, recording 1.2%, compared to the deflation of 0.3% in July 2025.

Food inflation (Y-o-Y) accelerated to 2.0% in August 2025 from 1.5% recorded in July 2025. Non-Food inflation (Y-o-Y), which remained negative since September 2024, also turned positive, recording 0.8% in August 2025, compared to the deflation of 1.2% in July 2025.

On a month-on-month basis, the CCPI declined by 0.38% in August 2025, for which the Food category contributed -0.49 percentage points and the Non-Food category contributed 0.11 ...
