Sri Lanka, Dec. 26 -- Passenger Transport Management and Power & Energy Minister Mahinda Amaraweera has decided to appoint an independent commission to investigate an alleged fraud in which the state had reportedly lost Rs.4000 million by awarding a contract related to the issue of digitised driving licenses introduced by the Department of Motor Traffic and outsourced to a private company.

The Ministry of Passenger Transport Management in a press release said the alleged fraud was related to the awarding of a contract to a private company to create an online information system and database related to the issuing of driving licenses.
