Sri Lanka, April 12 -- The Non-Communicable Diseases Unit of the Ministry of Health is urging the public to take extra precautions to prevent accidents during the Sinhala and Tamil New Year holidays.

Community Medical Specialist Dr. Samitha Siritunga revealed that each year, between 28,000 and 30,000 individuals are hospitalized due to accidents occurring during New Year week. Alarmingly, the number of fatalities during this period ranges from 75 to 100 annually.

The Ministry emphasizes the importance of responsible behavior, both on the roads and during festive activities, to ensure a safe and joyful New Year celebration for all.
