Srilanka, April 8 -- The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has appointed Evan Papageorgiou as the new Chief of Mission for Sri Lanka, succeeding Peter Brewer, who played a pivotal role in the country's recent economic recovery.

Peter Brewer led the IMF's engagement during Sri Lanka's most severe economic crisis, guiding the negotiations for the $3 billion Extended Fund Facility (EFF) approved in March 2023. He also oversaw the first three program reviews, and his leadership was key in progressing debt restructuring efforts and implementing critical macroeconomic reforms.
