Srilanka, March 12 -- The identity of the suspect arrested for the rape of a female doctor training as a specialist at the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital has been confirmed. Kiribandalage Nilantha Madhuranga Ratnayake, a 34-year-old resident of Galnewa's Navanagara area, was apprehended in connection with the crime.
The suspect, who had been remanded in custody for a separate case and released just two days prior, is also reported to have been a chivaradhari and had absconded from military service. He was arrested by a special police team after the victim's stolen mobile phone led authorities to track him down.
