Sri Lanka, Jan. 19 -- Contruction work of the Hunnasgiriya - Meemure road commenced under the patronage of Highways Minister Johnston Fernando, last Sunday, the Highways Ministry stated in a press release.

Minister Fernando had said at the event that the project will be carried out adhering to strict environmental protection guidelines so as to prevent damage to the Meemure Forest Reserve.

The main objective behind the project is to increase tourism in the corresponding areas, and steps are under way to renovate 13km of roads from the Hunasgiriya Kobay Gap to Meemure, the statement read.
