Srilanka, June 4 -- Cabinet Spokesman, Health and Mass Media Minister, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa announced that the Government has decided to deploy 100 modern, low-entry, comfortable buses for passenger transport through a new subsidiary company under the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB).
"As a pilot project, 100 brand-new buses will be imported and deployed along several major road corridors, including Colombo, Makumbura (Kottawa), Kaduwela, Kadawatha and Moratuwa," the Minister stated during the weekly Cabinet press briefing held yesterday.
He further clarified that the initiative will initially be implemented under the State sector. Depending on its success, the project may be expanded with the involvement of the private sector.
