Srilanka, Feb. 20 -- Director General of the Department of Meteorology, Athula Karunanayake, has forecast that the hot weather conditions will continue through March and April, despite the end of the northeast monsoon in February.
He attributed the extreme heat to reduced wind speeds and excessive solar radiation, which traps water vapor in the atmosphere, making it harder for sweat to evaporate.
Karunanayake indicated that relief is expected with the arrival of the southwest monsoon by the end of May.
