Srilanka, May 27 -- Traffic along the Nuwara Eliya-Badulla main road was completely halted this morning (27) after several large cypress trees were uprooted by strong winds and heavy overnight rains in the Nuwara Eliya area, according to Chief Inspector Premalal Hettiarachchi of the Nuwara Eliya Headquarters Police.

The trees had fallen across Gemunu Mawatha, near Gregory Lake, severely blocking the roadway. Police officers and local residents worked together to clear the obstruction. As a result, traffic has now been restricted to a single lane.

Authorities are urging motorists to exercise caution when traveling through both main and secondary roads in the Nuwara Eliya District, as adverse weather conditions persist.
