Srilanka, June 5 -- The Government has decided to issue an import licence to the Health Ministry to import the necessary quantity of maize in order to ensure uninterrupted production of Thriposha, due to ongoing challenges in sourcing locally grown maize that meets required quality standards, Cabinet Spokesman and Health and Mass Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said.
Speaking at the weekly Cabinet press briefing held on Tuesday (3), the Minister stated, "Sri Lanka Thriposha Limited requires 18,000 metric tons of maize annually, which amounts to a monthly demand of 1,500 metric tons. However, for the past two and a half years, it is unable to provide Thriposha for children aged between 6 months and 3 years.
